Borzoi in art
This beautiful [old] Christmas card was sent to Ernest Henry Guy sometime in the 1930's. The sender's name could not be made out, unfortunately. The front of the card is graced with a hand-stamped metal portrait of three Borzoi heads. The detail is exquisite and unfortunately did not scan well enough to be shown.
He was bred in Italy by Elena Bertolini and owned in Sweden by Margareta Syren and Cecilia Häggström. His life was ended in the most terrible way. On an evening walk in the streets in Stockholm a brick from a house wall came loose, fell and hit Zandor on his head. He died immediately...
We have by kindness of Cecilia Häggström been given the opportunity to publish some of her paintings. Cecilia is not only a very talented painter but also the succesful breeder behind the "Velikij" kennel.
Monte Dolack -born in 1950- is a contemporary artist born in Great Falls, Montana and living in Missoula, Montana [USA] who works in many mediums. His work is highly collectible and sought after. "The Borzoi" print was commissioned by Barbara Bouray of Yah-Borick Borzoi, then located in Montana. It is a poster with a limited number of copies and features one of Barbara's own Borzoi. A truly magical painting with a wonderful backdrop.
