Maria Boldareva

Before the 1917 Revolution in Russia, there were very few women among borzoi breeders, and even fewer who took part in hunting. One of them was Maria Boldareva (1876–1972), the wife of Artem Boldarev. She was also a regular participant in the Perchino autumn borzoi hunting seasons and a skilled horsewoman.

After the Revolution, the Boldarevs managed to emigrate from Russia. Artem Boldarev died in 1930, while Maria lived to an advanced age, passing away at 95.
I am adding three photographs: in the first, she is posing with her child and the dog Vyruchai. The photograph was probably taken in the early 1900s. In the second photograph, she is shown at Perchino in the autumn of 1913. In the last photograph, she is in England at the Winjones Kennel (owned by W. E. Chadwick, from whose book this photograph was copied). / By Andrus Kozlov
