The tragedy in Bolanda

 

Picture of Porozhai , born 1891, red/white by (Letun D.B.Golizyn x Zmeika Sipyagin) and Ugar 248 (Sverkai Gatchina 154 x Obruga Gatchina 152). He won a big silver medal in St.Petersburg 1896 and first prize in coursing 1894. Died in the fire  in Bolanda described below.
The Tragedy with the dogs of the Imperial Hunt (Russia).
The Russian State Archives (St. Petersburg) keeps documents of the Imperial Hunt (collection/fund No. 478). Document No. 14 dated 04/05/1897 notes that due to the fire in Bolandа (Balanda), Saratov province (Southern Russia), a lot of property of the Imperial hunt burned down. 29 dogs died in the fire!

In Bolandа there was an estate (and hunt) of Counts Sheremetev’s (previously it was located in Mihailovskoye). Whether the Imperial Hunt dogs were temporarily there? – I do not known.
