Kareef Hunt

Ivan L. Kareef Hunt at Pertovo

The origin of the Kareef borzoi dates back to famous hounds owned by Prince G.F. Baryatinsk and B.G. Baryatinsk, the grandfather of A.N. Kareef.

Kareef Hunt continued to breed on the same line of borzoi.

N. A. Kareef was a borzoi hunter but S.S. Kareef became more famous as a breeder/owner.

Sergei Sergeevich Kareef (Even spelled Kareev) was one of the most famous borzoi breeders of the 19th century. His dogs and their descendants had been successfully exhibited since the first exhibition in 1874 in Moscow until the end of the 19th century in both coursing and exhibitions. S.S.Kareev often wrote various articles in hunting magazines of the 19th century. The family had kept and hunted with borzoi since beginning off the 1800’s.

There were relatives who also bred and hunted with borzoi.
