Country Life in America. September 1904 issue/Andrus Kozlov

Article

It is very rare to find high-quality original vintage photographs of Borzois online. These rare glass plate negatives (and prints made from them) are currently for sale on eBay.

Although the photographs are listed without any names, I was able to identify the borozis in both photographs. In one photograph is Bistri, purchased from Perchino; in the other, Atamanka, acquired from Artem Boldarev’s hunt. These Borzois were imported from Russia in 1903 by J.Thomas Jun. to Valley Farm Kennels.
The photographs must have been taken no later than the autumn of 1904, as retouched versions were published in the September 1904 issue of Country Life in America. A third photograph, also currently listed on eBay, was published in the same issue. It features the Borzoi Tolstoi and the Greyhound Ch. Lansdowne Halstream
More information from Margaret Davis: What year is the magazine article with Tolstoi? There are several dogs with that name in the US but most of them were born 1910-1925 period. There was one born 4 March 1900 bred and owned by H B Coxe. The sire was Ch Marksman (Imp Russia) x Bessy. I don’t know the parents of Bessy. She had a previous litter in 1899 sired by Azarnoi bred by H W Sharpless from Am & Can Ch Argoss (Imp Russia) x Biddy Rees (Imp Russia) with 3 progeny named. Sharpless and Coxe also owned litter sisters born in 1895 sired by Abrek (Imp Russia) x Florette breeder not named (Sharpless?) and I don’t know Florette’s parents.
