Tjaika

Tjaika

Tjaika was, together with her brother Naletai, shown in Stockholm, May 1919, shortly after their arrival in Sweden. She was judged by Marie Knudtzen, Norwegian breeder/judge who wrote this about her: "Owned by Captain P O Silvferskiöld, this bitch reminds me a whole lot of Ch Ramsden Romance, with the same type of head and markings. She has a tremendous deepth of chest, good coat, but shedding. She seems tired, which probably depended on the long and tiresome transport from Russia. She ought to be a very good breeding specimen, which should mean that we have secured the breeding of Borzois in Scandinavia for a long time ahead." (First prize Open and Winner class Honour prize.)

Naletai and his sister were registered with Korotai-Lillie as parents, breed by Grand Duke Nikolai Nikolaewitsch as breeder.. Their lineage has recently been questioned by Breed researcher Andrus Kozlov, from Tartu, Estonia who claims that no Borzoi with these names were born on Perchino. Instead it seems as they were out of Zlorad-  Utecha Perchino, breed by General Stetkevitch  What is true is difficult to prove, so I choose to reproduce both versions, and leave open which version is the right one. What one can agree on is that the situation in Russia over the years after the Russian Revolution was chaotic, and that the lineage of Borzoi was probably not prio one during this time.
