Imperial Hunting Society Exhibition December 30, 1881, in the Moscow

Since 1874, the Imperial Hunting Society had been organizing dog and hunting-horse exhibitions in Moscow. The VIII exhibition opened on December 30, 1881, in the Moscow City Manege. The exhibition catalog listed 322 dogs and 38 horses. There were 50 borzois belonging to 15 owners. Count A. D. Sheremetev exhibited the largest number of dogs—15 borzois; N. Yermolov showed 6; V. Grekov, 6; N. Mazharov, 5; F. Svechin, 5; the remaining exhibitors showed fewer. The appearance of the venue—the Moscow City Manege—can be seen in drawings by the artist N. Bogatov (from the journal Nature and Hunting, February 1882). When the images are enlarged, one can see how the dogs were arranged at the exhibition.
