Schaloste

Schalost Perchino (Schaloste of Perchina)

When Schalost Perchino (born1898) came to America, she was not permitted to be registered with the suffix Perchino due to that name already being in use in American records.  Therefore, she was registered and entered in the AKC Studbook as Schaloste of Perchina, and her offspring entered with her as their dam in the same way. This explanation is to clarify any confusion with the discrepency in name. [taken from the AKC studbook, 1905, volume 22]. Before being imported to America at the age of 6 she had already had 3 litters at Perchino in Russia.

Margaret Davis submits the following information:A bit of good news for Ch Schaloste Perchino (Imp Russia). She is behind a Canadian import named Fairie Queen who is yet another one in the pedigree of Snyder's Red Fly so Schaloste does survive to modern dogs. That makes 38 known survivors from early imports. Snyder's Red Fly born 1929 has interesting rare dogs from the past such as Rolf of Addlestone (UK), Eng Ch Ramsden Radium (UK), Sascha II (Imp Russia), Caerhysddu Velsk (Imp UK) in the US bits then the Canadian line has 3 littermates of BIS winner Am & Can Genest of Roseau, BIS winner Ch Am & Can Ch Kubelik (Imp UK), Prince Galitzen II (Imp UK) Kaluga (Imp UK), Can Ch Sophia (Imp UK), Can Ch Ramsden Aviator (Imp UK) and Am & Can Ch Caerhysddu Elka (Imp UK). Snyder's Red Fly produced a litter in 1932, 1933 and 1935 with only one pup recorded each time and the first two did not breed on. The third was Greg Royal by Rolyat Ryshki (Imp Canada). and he was mated to another Snyder singleton Queen Fly to produce one pup named Lady Sonia IV the mother of Morris Duke Boris who saved the line. It is amazing that anything survived when there were only single pups for 3 generations. In a different litter Queen Fly produced Zorina of Ashwell the foundation girl for Sleeping Bear kennels. George Snyder lived at Bismarck, North Dakota and was mainly a farmer with hunting dogs. He had his first dog by Tippy Tira (Canada) in 1924 and later he had Rolyat Bovar (Imp Canada) but did not breed a litter until 1927 then had regular small litters of 1-3 pups registered up to 1936. Most had no kennel names. There was a period of no litters then in 1939 Snyder's Fatima aged 9 years produced Bobby Czarina who is behind Murr's Romanoff dogs. The last Snyder litter in 1941 was yet another singleton pup from Snyder's Goretz x Snyder's Zephyr. The pup was Noja Marfa Kastor behind Haljeans kennels. George Snyder did not show dogs and mainly kept a small line going for several generations for his own use in keeping predators away from his farm. He will never know how important his dogs were for the modern gene pool, especially his self red girl named Red Fly.
